Bettering Higher Education Essay example - 2120 Words

My academy experience to date has made me aware of issues in higher education that I want to explore further. Ultimately my goal is to better understand the critical issues in higher education and be able to influence change for the betterment of the academy as well as the students who are and will be participating in it. During my years at Babson College I have effectively generated change. I accomplish this by leading and participating in the practice of process development and improvement as it pertains to, event planning, data planning, inquiry outreach, and new program roll-out within Graduate Admissions. The practice of change management relates to larger higher education issues because it is needed in for the continued†¦show more content†¦The new technology has now become an integral part of the Graduate Admission’s culture and has allowed the recruiters to be more purposeful in their recruiting efforts. Additionally, I have discerned that once strategic changes provide a positive impact on the stakeholder’s efforts and responsibilities, they are more willing to embrace the new practice. Further, I realized that trust is always an important factor in the success of any project. During the project, as the trust grew the apprehension lessened. On a broader subject related to change, I also directed a Babson diversity initiative related to staff, faculty and student recruitment and retention and recognize that diversity is an issue in higher education that many institutions are grappling with. In March 2009 I was appointed to serve as a member of the Council for Inclusiveness and Community as well as the co-Chair of the Recruitment and Retention Committee. This Council and Committee were formed to create a more inclusive, diverse community on Babson College’s campus. I was very excited about this added exposure. Being actively engaged in the Council has and will enable me to influence change, this time on a larger campus-wide scale.
